5 Tips On Surrendering To The Flow Of Life

There is music in my ears… My heart is full; so full of gratitude that my eyes swell with water. I am all consumed with a feeling. A feeling of oneness. A feeling that I am exactly where I need to be. As I sit in my home nestled between the trees of a Florida forest, I watch the zig-zagging smoke of a nag champa incense. I am moved by the delicate lines that disperse into the air; by this life and the meaning of it all. I am 37 weeks pregnant. I have been blessed with the ability to grow life inside me. Blessed to have a laptop to type on and electricity to charge. I am blessed with life, health, and vitality. Simply put I am BLESSED and this feeling leads me to another feeling. A feeling of surrender, a feeling of acceptance, a feeling of LOVE.

This is something I haven’t felt in a while. I forgot how simple and easy life could be. I had become so preoccupied with thoughts of the future and preparing for a baby that I forgot what it was like to slow down. When I say slow down, I mean slow down in such a way that you recognize the spirit that constantly surrounds you. You begin to feel love and gratitude for the simplest things such as steeped tea, music, incense, peace. I think what I am trying to say is

   A RETURN TO LOVE; IS THE RETURN TO THE PRESENT MOMENT

Here is the thing I spend so much time inside of my head chasing my thoughts like a child in a game of hiding seek. Holding onto things I think have control over me and my life. Past traumas, an endless quest for perfection, an inherited lack of focus and motivation, crippling fear, procrastination, and what ifs. I had forgotten what it was like to

VIBRATE HIGHER

I had forgotten what it was like to listen to my higher self. There is a calling for each of us. We must become still enough to hear it. The call is subtle at first it slinks by like sand through your fingers.

Slowly, slowly, slowly

And then

BAM!!!

The subtle feeling becomes a banging nagging goal that you must accomplish. It is my belief that when we encompass this feeling; this bliss that we have becomes aligned, not only with ourselves, but with Universe, Spirit, God, Source Energy etc. Right here and now I totally give you permission to BLISS OUT! Allow yourself to become amazed by the mystery of life, allow love to fill your bones, freak yourself out over the fact that every single thing on this planet right now has a purpose and that includes you.

Let’s look to nature for a moment. Let us think about the job of a single honeybee or a blade of grass or the branches of a tree providing shade for scurrying insects. Once you begin to fill your mind with thoughts like this you are headed down the road to bliss. Now, I will share with you five ways to surrender to the flow of life and return to love.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH ALL OF YOUR MATERIAL COMFORTS

Yes! I said it; invite comforting things into your space. A few of my favorite things that bring me peace

Music– I truly believe music is therapy

Tea- My favorite is Peach Tranquility herbal tea by Teavana

Incense- Nag Champa, Frankincense, Jasmine

A cozy blanket

And a few of your favorite crystals. I use whichever crystals I am called to in the moment. Today it is rose quarts, because I am feeling soft much like its gentle pink hue.

BECOME ONE WITH NATURE

This is easy for me because I live in the forest. It is late spring, and I am enthralled with the life buzzing around me. I have been enjoying the sweet love songs of the Cardinals as their red feathers flash in front of my kitchen window, the buzz of the bees, and the heat of the sun warming the trees. Remember to keep in mind that you are more than an observer when it comes to nature. Consider yourself an intricate part of this massive ecosystem.

DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

That’s right allow yourself to simply be. Some of the most pivotal moments of my life came from me doing nothing. I am not saying meditate because in all honesty that requires focus and practice. I am asking you to allow your mind to wonder. Daydream, ask yourself the what if questions such as; what would you do if you had an unlimited supply of money? What would you do if you had enough “time” to do it? If a genie granted you three wishes what would you wish for? So often questions like these lead us to our life purpose. FOCUS ON SERVICE

How are you helping the people of this world? How are you helping the earth, her animals, her trees, her oceans? In what way are you giving freely of yourself. Regardless of what anyone thinks we were put here to love and in my eyes that is service. I love myself so fucking much that I began to see myself in the eyes of others. A part of me believes that a little part of Gods spirit is in everything. When you begin to recognize the God in everything you will want to serve in ways you’ve never imagined and this… well, this gives you a feeling of freedom and love you will never forget. Ask yourself how can I serve the world today?

WRITE STREAMS OF CONSCIOUSNESS

Do you notice how every morning as soon as you wake up you are bombarded by thoughts? You are consumed from the moment you open your eyes with thoughts, feelings, emotions, and the sad reality of the situation is most of us have no control over these thoughts. We give every thought an emotional reaction, which then gives it power in our lives. I have found that writing streams of consciousness allows me to spew all those thoughts and feeling onto paper, which gets them out of my mind. Here is how it works,

Grab a pen and paper

Sit in your bed, on your meditation pillow, desk whatever is most comfortable for you

Set a timer for ten minutes

Place the pen to paper and don’t lift it until the timer goes off

Don’t worry about grammar, cursing, spelling, if it’s legible or anything of the sort. This activity is to get those pestering thoughts out of your head. Do this daily and you will find that you awaken with more clarity and focus. I learned this technique from a college professor who must have learned it from the book The Artist Way by Julia Cameron if you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it.
