Strengthen Your Smile With Oil Pulling

Coconut oil exotic and delicious, but have you discovered it’s amazing healing benefits. This oil extracted from the meat of coconut palms has the ability to moisturize, aid in burning fat, boost brain function, and it may also act as a weak sunscreen blocking about 20% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. I am telling you this superfood packs a punch. I bet you are wondering how coconut oil will aid with dental health. Well, let’s get into it.

Coconut Oil For Dental Health

Coconut oil is packed with essential fatty acids; these fatty acids can kill pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. That is why this “medicine oil” has been used for years as an ancient Ayurvedic practice often referred to as “Kavala” or Oiling pulling. This is the act of swishing a plant-based oil in your mouth to draw toxins from the body. Oil pulling is said to promote

  • Healthy Gums
  • Whiter teeth
  • Better Breath
  • Stronger Teeth
  • Cavity Prevention

Oil Pulling 101

I promise you when you first begin to oil pull the thick pasty texture of the oil will make you want to gag, but the benefits of this oil far outweigh the few seconds it takes for this solid to quickly liquify HeHe. Did I mention that coconut oil solidifies at room temperature? If yours is solidified feel free to heat your oil a little and then begin the act of oil pulling. Be sure to purchase high-grade coconut oil. The point of oil pulling is to rid your body of unwanted toxins, viruses, and bacteria.

Fun Fact did you know your mouth contains 500 to 1000 different strains of bacteria, and a lot of these bacteria reside on the tongue. That is why it is beneficial to scrape the tongue with a spoon or tongue scraper rather than to brush because brushing pushes the bacteria further into the tongue.

Now, Let’s Get Into It

First thing in the morning grab your favorite oil. If coconut oil is too much for you feel free to grab a different oil such as Olive Oil, Castor Oil, or Almond oil. As I stated above opt for healthy oils that are organic and aren’t heat treated. My favorite brand of coconut oil is Dr. Bronners Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. I am telling you this stuff is the Sh**. I condition my hair with it, pre-poo with it, I use it in cooking, and I use it as a daily moisturizer, It is amazing. It also worked great for my son’s cradle cap.

Back to It

Grab yourself a tablespoon of coconut oil. Open wide and try not to gag, it is a bit of a shock to the gag reflex in the beginning. Swish the oil around for about 10 to 20 minutes. I recommend 20 minutes because it gives the oil just enough time to bind to the bacteria, any longer and the bacteria will slip away and go back into the gums, tongue, and teeth.

Remember to swish gently and Never Ever Swallow. If you do decide to swallow you will be ingesting the toxins you just extracted from your mouth, and that is completely against the point here. After 10 to 20 minutes spit the oil into the trash never the sink or toilet. Remember this oil solidifies so aim for the trash. When you are all done rinse, floss, and brush. Don’t forget to enjoy the amazing benefits of this healing oil and stay on the lookout for how I use coconut oil on my skin, hair, and nails.
